            <text>Over the years, the station has been an important stop for long distance passenger trains headed to Scranton, Buffalo, Point West as well as a heavily used stop for commuters to Newark. It also housed division offices for freight and passenger services in the Morris and Essex Division. It was refurbished in the 1970s and 1980s and large sections of the station were divided into smaller spaces for railroad offices and crew quarters. In the 1980's the station was renamed Broad Street Station. From 2004-2008 a major renovation took place to restore the building and to provide barrier-free access.</text>

              <text>Situated on a confined site to the north edge of the Central Business district, Newark-Broad Street Station exemplifies the architectural eclecticism of the early twentieth century. The construction of the station in 1901-1903 coincided with the commencement of a grade separation project accomplished during the administration of William Truesdale, president of the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad.</text>
