            <text>George Elwood Jones designed the Griffith Building at 605 Broad St. as 'a small-scale skyscraper with electric ornamentation,' according to Donald Geyer, whose papers detail Newark's architectural gems. His 12-story Academy Building in Italian Renaissance style had 'dignified fine vertical lines with strong Roman arches.' Jones, who also designed the Riviera Hotel and the Colleoni Apartments, served as consultant for the city's housing authority. For that effort, he received a 1929 award of merit.</text>
