This image is taken from a report of Dr. Guy Payne, the Superintendent of the Essex County Hospital for Insane. The image recounts a statement in which Dr. Payne highlights the importance of a patient's occupation as a contributing factor in treatment and rehabilitation. He concludes that the buildings must be able to accommodate methods of treatment that improve the skillset of the patient. He reasons that this will not only acclimate the patient to an occupation but also prove beneficial to the economy as a whole if the patient is successfully treated and allowed to leave the hospital.</text>
